It started in Naples back in 2008, after being warned by friends of how dangerous the city was, I decided that contrary to these warnings, I had to experience this for myself crazy right? Sitting on the plane, the warnings consumed my thoughts, I felt as though I had to carry a gun, or the Camorra (Naples Mafia) would be waiting for me on every street corner, and not to mention, the Neapolitan zipping by on a Vespa that may snatch my bag. My experience in Naples however, was quite the opposite. I actually fell in love with the city and have been there three times since and counting.
I’ve always had a passion for food, especially Neapolitan style. Pursuing a career in food had crossed my mind, however I’ve never thought too deeply about it as I hadn’t worked in the industry. I began my working career in the manufacturing industry many moons ago, before working my way up through the public sector & corporate world. I was definitely grateful for the career opportunities, however there was always something missing.
It was in 2014 when I decided to resign from my global corporate role and focus my energy in finding what I was passionate about. It turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made.
It wasn’t until travelling back to Naples in the summer of 2015, standing in a popular strip called Via Toledo“ fashion shops, food, Gelato, paved street and a lot of Mamma Mia in the background, I discovered a long queue of hungry people waiting for their pizza fritta (Fried Pizza). After waiting an hour for my pizza fritta, taking my first bite I became lost in the moment and had an epiphany to start my own pizza fritta food truck.
Returning back to Melbourne with the decision to combine my love for the city of Naples and passion for food, I started my quest to research and source local/International producers, endless taste tests with family and friends until the perfect pizza fritta was born. Finally, it’s now time to bring Naples to Melbourne…. Buon Appetito!
